SPECIAL NOTE:

WisperTel does not use authentication to access our news servers.  You must be on-network in order to use it.

Instructions are provided for Netscape, ThunderBird and Outlook Express:

Mozilla ThunderBird

1. Launch Thunderbird.
2. From the File menu, select New, and then choose Account. The Account Wizard will open up.
3. Select Newsgroup account. Click the Next button.
4. Enter your name and e-mail address in the appropriate fields. Click the Next button.
5. Select the Newsgroup Server field, enter news.wispertel.net and click the Next button.
6. Choose a name for this account. Click the Next button.
7. Review your settings in the next window, and then click the Finish button
8. Click the Refresh button on the Subscribe screen to obtain a list of newsgroups from the WisperTel news server.

Netscape 6.0

1. Open Netscape 6.0
2. Go to the Tasks menu and select Mail & Newsgroups.
3. Go to the File menu and select New and then Account.
4. The New Account Wizard will open. Select Newsgroup accounts and click Next.
5. Enter your account identity information (the same as for your mail account) in the next wizard screen, then click Next.
6. Enter news.wispertel.net in the news server (NNTP) field.
7. Click Next and you will see the Account Summary page.
8. Click Finish if all of the information is correct, Back to correct mistakes.
9. To successfully login to the news server, you'll need to tell Netscape 6x that you are subscribing to a group. To do this, pull up the Subscribe screen by clicking the Subscribe to Newsgroups link (or right-clicking the Newsgroup account name you just set up in the Mail window folder area and selecting Subscribe...):
10. Click the Refresh button on the Subscribe screen to obtain a list of newsgroups from the WisperTel news server.

Outlook Express

1. Open Outlook Express
2. In the Menu Bar at the top of your Outlook Express window... click on "Tools" and then "Accounts".
3. An "Internet Accounts" window will appear. Click on the "Add" button on the right side of this window. An extension will appear that shows different items you can add. Click on "News"
4. In the box to the right of "Display Name"... enter the name you would like to be visible when responding to any newsgroups. (Your full name, first name, last name or nickname)
   (be careful, spammers like to scan newsgroups and use your email address)
   Click "Next"
5. In the box to the right of "News (NNTP) Server" enter: news.wispertel.net
   A "Congratulations your are finished" window appears.
   Click "Finish"
6. Click "Yes" to download the available News Groups.
