When testing speed, please make sure you're talking the same language. Your connection is rated in kilobits per second. Many programs report speed in kilobytes per second which is kilobits divided by 8. (A byte equals 8 bits.)
As you can see, there is a huge difference in the numbers, but it's just divided by 8. If you test your speed, http://www.wispertel.com/speedtest you should be given the results in kbps. WisperTel does operate a high capacity, shared network where your speed may vary by your location on the network and the time of day. Similar to a highway during rush hour, traffic varies by location with the highest traffic typically between 7:00 – 10:00, both morning and evening. Outside of these times you should experience higher speeds. Again similar to other Internet Service Providers, WisperTel’s service plans are advertised on a peak “up to” maximum speed, with no guaranteed minimum for residential-class service. However, WisperTel does guarantee its "business" enterprise-class service at 50% the rated maximum speed. For this guaranteed minimum and other service enhancements, we strongly recommend enterprise-class service for any/all mission critical applications.
Resolutions: For slow connections, first check the connection by disconnecting it from any router or wireless device and going direct to your PC's ethernet card. Reboot the computer. If the problems go away, you have a bad router, or in the case of a wireless router, it could be interference on the channel. Refer to user documentation and change the channel and try again.
